FANTASTIC FISHING AND BEAUTIFUL WEATHER

The fishing has been fantastic for the last few weeks, even the week the wind was blowing up to 25 mph the fishing was good. For the last few days the wind has laid back down finally and it is a beautiful day....high of 76 with easterly winds of about 5-10 knots...the rest of the week is suppose to be 2-7 knots...wow, can you believe this weather.

Anyway, we are catching a good mix bag of fish. Which is typical this time of year. Plenty of action on the flats for pompano, trout, bluefish, ladyfish, mackerel and flounder. Around the islands we are catching a nice number of snook, redfish, jewfish, jacks, ladyfish and snapper. We also caught a 23 inch Gag Grouper in the Islands. I had 2 couples fish with me a couple days ago, so we called the girls against the guys. Well, guess who won that day...The girls with a score of 24 to 23(not to bad for a half day charter). We had a hard time keeping track the day before so this day they brought a pencil and pad to keep score with. We actually caught 16 snook and Barb caught the biggest one (snook). These fish weren't monsters, but they are a lot of fun especially when they wanted to see who (guys or girls) could catch and land the most fish. Roberta caught the biggest fish over all being a 49 inch bonnet-head shark. She had a lot of fun catching that one. The guys did a good job keeping up with the girls and of course Jim says "I caught the best eating fish" with his 23" gag grouper. Chuck was having fun just being in the game catching fish and away from work.

Redfish-Redfish-Redfish

Summer is definitely over as the hot days are gone until next year.

Today as I write this the wind is calm, the high was 82 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Nice day on the water? you bet'cha!!!

The cold fronts are starting to sweep downwards to South West Florida. With this is mind the fishing is starting to change. The good news is fishing is good. The water has cooled a little causing the fish to be more active while moving some of the migrating fish into this area. There is also a lot of bait-fish moving in. This is the time of year that we start catching what we call our mix bag. For the next few months we will be catching redfish in numbers. Some nice snook, fat trout, big pompano (up to 4 lbs) mackerel, bluefish, even catch cobia up on the flats while trout fishing. We will also be catching sheepshead, black drum, snapper, flounder yellowtail jacks, ladyfish, whiting along with some Baby Tarpon. As usual I will be fishing on the flats, in the rivers, around the mangroves and along the beaches. This time of year with the occasional cold front passing is what determines where we fish and what we fish for. For example if we have a front come thru the night before your fishing trip, chances are that we won't be on the flats fishing for trout, as the front will cause the water to mud up and this usually results in a lot of fishing and not much catching. So we will want to go where we will do some catching. Maybe in the river mouths, maybe fish some of the deep holes, or maybe along the mangrove islands. Wherever and whatever it takes to put us on fish. Here in the Everglades National Park/10,000 Islands we have a lot of places to fish regardless of the wind and weather.

With the holidays just around the bend it is easy to forget to make your fishing plans until the last minute. This sometimes leads for disappointments when you can't fish with whom you want or when you want. Anyway, don't forget it is always a good idea to reserve your day as soon as you have an idea when you might want to fish.

Everglades Fishing Charters Fishing Report July 2011

Capt Becky is back in full swing down in Everglades City after being up in Boca Grande for a short nice season, full of great tarpon fishing, time spent with new friends, and a great tournament team I am already missing.
I have already started taking bookings for our next tarpon season(2012) up in Boca Grande. If you want to fish for the Silver Kings with me up in Boca Grande be sure and make your plans early as the season only last about 6 weeks, so we book up early. The fishing out of Everglades City has been on and off, but mostly ON. The weather is starting to get into a pattern with it being cloudy in the mornings and raining in late afternoon/evenings. This makes the fishing good as it flushes out the rivers/creeks and also cools everything down a little.

We are still catching the usual.....Trout, Redfish, Snook, Pompano, Mackerel, Blackdrum, Mangrove Snapper, Sharks, Goliath Grouper and Baby Tarpon. Actually the Baby Tarpon fishing is getting better each day, as the hotter it gets the hotter the Baby Tarpon fishing gets. There were some Cobia and Permit along with big Sharks on the near shore wrecks last week.

The summer months will continue to be consistently good for the above species.

I would like to recommend 1/2 - 3/4 day charters this time of year because it is warm and also to stay away from the afternoon rains.

Well, guess everyone is ready for a fishing report. My apologies for being behind on the report.

The fishing has been good with nice catches of trout, red fish, pompano, mackerel, bluefish, snook, etc. A couple days ago we had the biggest trout of the season (on my boat)...a 24 3/4" gator trout. Now that's a nice big trout. We are catching some nice big ones, most around 18-19 inches. These fish are fun to catch and great to eat. It is nice to be able to take them to a restaurant here in town (or take home) to fix for your dinner as the table fare is great and you can't get any fresher than that.

The tarpon are here but are kind of a hit and miss (my opinion) The weather has a lot to do with where there are and also being able to see them. I guess everyone knows that I prefer the small ones (in Everglades City) as they are more predictable and are a blast to catch without the long hours of fighting one.

However if you do prefer the big boys I have 2 dates left for tarpon charters in Boca Grande....the 26 of May and the 2 of June. This is the time that the tarpon are dependable enough to tournament fish and also recreational fish for them. So if you would like to fish for the big boys in Boca Grande give me a call (239-695-2029) and I will get you booked in.

The weather down is here is beautiful with high in the low 80's and nights in the mid 60's. Really makes the fish turn on as the bait fish are flowing onto the flats and this brings on a great bite of all fish including cobia, tarpon, sharks, mackerel, big trout, etc. When the nights are steady in the 60 with no 50's any longer the offshore snook will start to flow in while the snook from the black water will start to move toward the passes. This should start happening any day now as I write this we will have nothing by nights time temperatures in the 60's for the week.

Last week I saw my first swallow tail kite....this means that winter is over and spring is here....yeah we get to put up the coats and sweaters and get out our summer clothes.

Okay looks like it's gonna be a great spring and summer so it's time to start making those vacation plans. Trout season opened on the 1st of January and it's starting out to be a fantastic one at that. We are catching a lot of trout and some nice big ones. The cold fronts are swinging down just about every week. That means we have a couple days of cold weather and then 4 or 5 days of very nice weather. Today is a cold day with temp in the mid 40 in the mornings and upper 60 in the afternoon. Tomorrow will be back up to the low to mid 70's....very nice with a bright sunny day.

We are back to the time of the year that we catch a mix bag of everything. This is fun cause you never know what might hit your line. Maybe something as small as a mangrove snapper or how about something as big as a 50lb blackdrum....even better than that what about a tarpon that comes skyrocketing out of the water. It can be pretty exciting sometimes.

What we are catching now and what we expect to catch in the next couple months.....Trout-season is open....snook-season is closed (catch/release only)......redfish-season is open....pompano-open....mackerel-open....bluefish-open...blackdrum-open.....sheepshead-open....tarpon-catch/release only....mangrove snapper-open....ladyfish, jacks, sharks etc.

Looks like it is going to be a great season.

JUST ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE!!!!

Tom Bayless and his son Charlie (13 years) from UK were in town and wanted to do a morning fishing trip. Tom wanted to catch a TARPON while Charlie just wanted to fish with dad.

The bite started a little slow, but it didn't take to long before we were jumping some tarpon. There were a lot of fish around but they were being awfully pickie on what they wanted to eat. We had artificial and live bait. Couldn't but a bite on live bait, but finally found the artificial they wanted. Sometimes you just have to have a smorgasbord to offer them, which we did. Anyway, the morning went very well. We actually jumped 6 TARPON landing only 1, but at lease we did get a score on the board. We also landed 3 SNOOK out of 5. These weren't big SNOOK as the big ones usually get away, but they were keeper size. We had 4 other fish on that we didn't get jumps out of so they could of been anything from TARPON-SNOOK to GOLIATH GROUPER cause what we did get was a good rod bend. We also had a SHARK on which was probably a little BULL SHARK.

The guys did very good and did throw their arms off casting, so the last 1/2 hour of the trip they wanted to see a little more of the EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK. While doing a little boat exploring, we saw some MANATEES and they came right up to the side of the boat for some pictures. We also saw a flock of ROSEATE SPOONBILLS. Very beautiful birds they are. No dolphins today, but maybe tomorrow.

Charlie says he has always enjoyed reading and learning about American History in school. This is his first time every coming to America and just loved it. Hope he can come back again someday. Okay Tom and Charlie I am waiting for some pictures, but in the meantime I have a couple I took.

Fishing remains to be typical summer time fishing as the evening rains are picking up in the afternoon. We are still catching a variety of species. I had Garland Lankford and his wife Kathy..friends Steve and Lisa, all from Mississippi. They have never been down here before and really enjoyed the trip. Our plan was to first set out to catch some trout then try for some baby tarpon and also snook or redfish. We almost went by the plan but caught a couple other species while doing so. We caught quite a few trout out on the flat along with flounder and a black tip shark that was caught by Lisa. Boy did this shark really give her a fit....she says "man that really fought hard" and they do, a lot of fun to catch. Good job Lisa!!!

We then left the flat to go find some baby tarpon. Garland asked me what size they were as we call them baby tarpon. They run from about 5-40 lbs I replied as he nodded to say that sounded good to him. Well, as we watch the fish role around us, we weren't being very successful in hooking into any, we were starting running out of time with the tide. Then all the sudden, hook-up and the line started screaming off the reel....Garland says, Capt. don't think I can turn this fish as I looked down and saw we were almost out of line....so we started the motor while picking up the anchor and off we went. Usually tarpon jump almost immediately after hooking up but this one decided to run a lot instead...we finally did get a jump out of her, but baby tarpon??....no, this wasn't a baby tarpon. She was a full grown fish....She weighed 80-90 lbs, no wonder Garland couldn't stop her. As Garland fought the fish we followed with the boat in order to get closer to her and keep some line coming in on the reel. Boats were stopping to watch us while fighting this monster. We got another jump out of her and were starting to wear her down and taking up line, things were looking pretty good for landing this "baby tarpon" LOL. As we were getting cameras out, gaft, etc. she decided to jump one more time and you know what happened then...yep, she threw the hook right back at Garland and off she went. Usually we land about 1 out of 3 this one was number 1, but was the only hit we had that day. Garland says, wow, that was the biggest fish he ever had on...he will be back for some more of that.

Okay, we still had a little time left so headed to another spot to catch snook and Kathy did just that. She was fishing out the back of the boat while talking we hear her saying oh, oh, oh my, she had a snook on which took her up to the front and back again...she did a great job handling and landing her first snook. We didn't catch any redfish, but oh well, maybe next time.

My daughter and I had a day off together and decided to spend the day on the water swimming/site seeing/shelling with a picnic lunch. We took some pictures just to show everyone how pretty the water is with NO OIL....

Fishing still remains good. The afternoon rain isn't affecting us as it usually starts raining after we get in. I am doing quite a few 3/4 days to make sure we do however get in before the rain.

Tom Pusateri and his family came to fish in the Everglades over the 4th of July weekend. They wanted to catch a mess of trout for dinner then try to land a tarpon or two. We did just that....we caught our limit of nice trout up to 22 inches....then to jump 7 tarpon landing 1, so i guess the tarpon won that day.

July Orick and her 2 daughters wanted to fish while the guys played golf, so we did a 3/4 day. They also wanted a mess of fish to eat and try their skill on tarpon. Between the 3 girls, they caught trout and lots of them, snook and jumped 5 tarpon landing 1. Way to go girls.

Fishing will continue to be good through out the summer months....even with the rain around we will be jumping and landing tarpon, snook, trout and many more species.

Sunday and Monday I fished a family of 4....Todd Mitchel(father), Matt, Jack (sons) and Frank (grandfather) from Georgia. They have fished with me for several years and we always have a blast. They caught Trout, Redfish, Snook, Sharks, and a spotted eagle ray. Jack was the one who caught the eagle ray, we were casting live baits. I guess it took him a good hour+ to land it. Good job Jack and hope the blisters go away fast. Matt got the biggest shark and did a fine job landing it. Frank seemed to show everyone else how it was suppose to be done as he caught more fish than anyone, but he is the grandfather and probably had the most experience. I think Todd caught the most Trout and like always just enjoys watching his 2 sons and father have a great time on the water.

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday I fished George and Artie Grindle from Orlando. They wanted to pull some Snook out of the mangroves. Wednesday - We caught 5 and lost ? along with 1 Redfish. We also walked on some of the islands and hunted for some different shells to take back for the girls. Thursday they wanted to try for baby Tarpon in the morning and then go for Snook and Redfish in the afternoon. We had an hour or so left in the tide Thursday morning so headed for the Tarpon. We jumped 5 Tarpon and landed 0, not very good odds, but sometimes that's the way it goes. We also landed 1 Goliath Grouper out of 3. Then went outside to look for some Snook and Redfish. We landed 3 out of 5 Snook and 0 Redfish. The tides weren't very good so we walked on the islands again looking for whatever we could find. On the way in they asked if I was available to fish in the morning for another chance of some Tarpon. They really had a blast trying to catch baby Tarpon. So early Friday morning we headed for the Tarpon hole. They had a great morning jumping 7 Tarpon landing 2. These baby Tarpon are a lot of fun to catch, as they stay out of the water jumping more then they are in the water. We were using artificial baits and live baits, but I think the artificial are more fun as you really feel that awesome hit better.

Everglades Fishing Charters Fishing Report June 10/2010

For the last 3 weekends I (Capt Becky Campbell) have been Fishing in the WPTTS (womens professional tarpon tournament series) in Boca Grande.

Team Aeon/Outtaline is the WINNER of week #3 (June 5) with 197# Tarpon.

Team Aeon/Outtaline members are Becky Campbell, Debra Gell, Ginger Campbell, Andy Peduzzi (Captain) and Jim Phillips (mate).

Here are the final results for Team Aeon/Outtaline

1st place for week #3 with 197# Tarpon

1st place total weight of fish weighed in

2nd place over all (total weight and releases)

6th place total releases

Our 197# Tarpon set a record for the largest caught by a female in the history of this tournament.

This 197# Tarpon is/was huge, and took us all the way to the other side of Boca Grande Pass before I brought it to the gaft. We then took her to the weigh scales where she was weighed and released alive after the marine research took measurements and lab samples for DNA testing.

This is a tournament of 42 teams with up to 4 female per team. With out a doubt next year it will even be bigger.

We had a great time and can't wait to do this again next year. Go Team Aeon/Outtaline

Everglades Fishing Charters Fishing Report June 03/10

Oil Spill....seems to be on everybody's mind lately and so it should.

Has it affected the Everglades? NO
Can we smell the oil? NO
Can we see it on the water? NO
Is it effecting the fishing? NO

Remember Florida is a long way from Louisiana and we are down at the southern part of the state and 100+ miles in from the gulf stream.

So with this in mind....how is the fishing? It is catching as usual, with Permit, Cobia, Redfish, Trout, Pompano, Mackerel, Snook, Shark and there are still some Tarpon around. The bait is here for the summer which also helps keep the larger fish here and makes summer fishing good.

The Snook are in the Passes, Around the Islands, in the River Mouths and out on the Near-Shore wrecks/reefs.

The Redfish are Around the Islands, Along the Beaches and in the River Mouths.

The Trout, Pompano, Cobia, Permit Sharks, Mackerel are on the Flats and also out on the Near-Shore wrecks/reefs.

The Tarpon are in the Passes, Backwater Bays, and off the Outside Beaches.

We all are concerned about how this catastrophe will affect our beautiful natural habitat in the Everglades and how it will affect the fishing. It is still an unknown but what is known is that we are open for fishing, open for fun and open for charters!

Fishing is Good in the Everglades

Tarpon are finally here and seem to be everywhere....in the passes, on the flats, along the beaches...everywhere. If you want to catch one of these Big guys, they will put you to your max...sometimes taking up to an hour to land...can you do it or will the tarpon win?

We are also catching nice size redfish, actually at the top of the slot size. These fish are a lot of fun to catch and good to eat also.

Plenty of Trout and some Pompano too. Mackerel are in the 4-6 lb range and put up a good fight.

Snook..did someone say snook..yes we are catching snook of all sizes around the islands.

May is a great time of year and probably one of my favorite months to fish. The summer rains haven't started yet, but they are sure to come....

So come down and let's go fishing, cause the fishing is great and so is the weather.

Here we are into the middle of April already...finally, we are just starting to feel like things are starting to get back to normal from an unusually cold and windy winter. The fishing has been good even with the wind blowing 20-25 on many days. I was talking with several other captains and one of them said he couldn't find any trout in places he normally fished, but there had been nothing normal about this winter and spring so with that in mind it was just a matter of hunting for them and not going back to our same ole spots. However in the last couple weeks, the fish are starting to be where they normally would be for this time of year. We are catching lots of big trout....the biggest on my boat so far is 26"...with lots of fish over 20 inches. These fish are really fun to catch and put up a good fight. While we are fishing for trout we are also catching pompano, large permit, small cobia, sharks, mackerel, blue fish, blue runners, ladyfish, and jacks. Needless to say there is quite a lot of action to keep you and your captain busy while fishing out on the flats. When the tide is right we are also catching redfish, black drum and snook.

Fishing will continue to be good and even get better as summer approaches. May is the time of year we start to catch our big snook as they start to get into schools for their spawn.

The evening rains haven't started yet, but are sure to come in time. Unless we have a dry summer....never know.

Okay here were go.....It has been one heck of a ride with the cold weather we had here in South Florida. We actually beat records set back in 1927. Okay that's a long time ago, so what do we do now. Well, Mother Nature can be really cruel sometimes and this time she did her job and did it well. You know that fishing is all a matter of personal feelings, and that's what makes every guide (person) different as it is what he/she believes in according to his/her experience on the water. Well, I believe that Mother Nature know what she is doing. That whatever she did/does she did/does for a reason. Maybe there is not enough food so she has to thin out her stock. Maybe she has a lot of weak or sick fish that just aren't going to make a strong future stock. Okay then how does she take care of this.....with Red Tide or below normal temperatures is a couple ways. I really think that because of this we will have a better, stronger stock now and with in the next couple years to come. Okay what did I see during these record temperatures, quite a lot of big snook, huge snook to say the lease, baby tarpon, and lots of small bait fish, like pinfish, silver jenneys, ladyfish etc. Oh did I say catfish....lots of dead catfish.

So, what has the fishing been like since the cold. Actually it has been pretty good. The fish are not (my opinion) in there normal places, so we just have to hunt for them a little harder. I really believe that a lot of big snook went offshore and they will be back inshore at their normal time to come inshore.

I will say that the fish have quite a appetite since the cold. We are catching Redfish, and Large Trout. Every Redfish I (customers have caught) since the cold have been keepers and are fat at that. We are catching limits on Redfish and also Trout. The cold didn't bother sheepshead or blackdrum either, at least I didn't see any dead. Haven't really caught any, but haven't tried either, as my customers have been happy with Redfish and Trout. Oh, I almost forgot there are also Grey Trout and Sugar Trout to help in the table food and fun in catching.

The weather is back to normal and it is so beautiful. Today was another chamber of commerce day with temp in the low 80's and clear sky's.

Man, is it ever cold down here this week. Since the week before Christmas the weather has been touch and go. I have been fishing in nice weather and fishing in very cold weather. Have we been catching fish? You bet'cha. I think the fish have finally got use to the cold but hope it doesn't get any colder as we might just loose some snook do to extremely cold water temp. Trout season opened on the 1st of Jan and it has proven to be a very good season for nice BIG Trout. We are also catching Redfish, Snook, Baby Tarpon, Whitting, Gray Trout, Silver Trout, Sheepshead, Blackdrum, Snapper, Ladyfish, Jacks and Flounder.

The North wind has been blowing for a couple weeks, but it seems like forever. This blows the water out of the back waters and doesn't let the tide bring it back up to normal. When this happens we start to fish our winter holes. Different types of fish come and go through these holes as the tides flows in or out. This type of fishing can be very exciting cause you never know what you are going to catch or get ahold of in these deep spots. It might be a 100 lb tarpon or a 10 lb snook....ya just never know.

Okay, we just got good news that the weather is going to start getting warmer in a couple days and will be back into the mid to high 70's by the end of the week. (Jan 16)

The fishing has been good for the last couple weeks, even the week the wind was blowing up to 25 mph the fishing was good. For the last few days the wind has laid back down finally. Anyway, we are catching a good mix bag of fish. Which is typical this time of year. Plenty of action on the flats for pompano, trout, bluefish, ladyfish and mackerel. Around the islands we are catching a nice number of snook, redfish, jewfish, jacks, ladyfish and snapper. We also caught a 23 inch Gag Grouper in the Islands. I had 2 couples fish with me a couple days ago, so we called the girls against the guys. Well, guess who won that day...The girls with a score of 24 to 23. We had a hard time keeping track the day before so this day they brought a pencil and pad to keep score with. We actually caught 16 snook and Barb caught the biggest one (snook). These fish weren't monsters, but they are a lot of fun especially when they wanted to see who (guys or girls) could catch and land the most fish. Roberta caught the biggest fish over all being a 49 inch bonnet-head shark. She had a lot of fun catching that one. The guys did a good job keeping up with the girls and of course Jim says "I caught dinner" with his 23" gag grouper. Chuck was having fun just being in the game catching fish and away from work. I have a couple pictures, but my camera got water spots on the lens so the most didn't turn out very good. Oh well, maybe next time. Okay this is the time of year that everyone is busy getting ready for the Holiday, but you need to call and get your fishing dates reserved. Don't want to get left out. The fishing has been good and the weather is great. I fished Sarah and her husband Allen today and we had a fantastic time. We had to move a couple times to find the fish, but that's okay cause they have tails to swim with and sometimes you just have to hunt for them. They wanted to take some fish home for dinner and that is just what they did. We actually had a cooler full of fish to say the least. Lets see, we caught 7 SNOOK, 3 REDFISH, 5 SNAPPER, 13 TROUT, and one nice JACK. Before we got done cleaning the ones we kept, Sarah said "I don't know if all that fish will fit in my cooler" With a little ice, the fish did fit and they had a nice mess of fish to take home for quite a few dinners. This is the first time Sarah has fished with me cause the last time they came down she had some business she had to take care of so it was Allen and their daughter. She (Sarah) really was glad to get on the water this time. We saw quite a few dolphins, birds and wading birds. The Ospreys are back preparing their homes for nesting season. The white pelicans are here in great numbers which make them easy to spot from quite a long ways off. As soon I get some pictures that Allen took I will post them, but for the time being, here is one that I took of Sarah with a nice 31" (keeper) SNOOK.... Like I always say

We just had our first cold front come through and it was a pretty good one. Lowered the temp. down to the 50's and the wind blew 15-25. Ed and Patti fished with me on the 17 and 18. With the temp. in the mid 80's over cast, misting rain, wind out of the west on Sat and down in the low 60's on Sunday with the wind blowing 20 out of the North, but the fishing was still okay. The two days combined we landed 13 SNOOK (one being a beautiful 36")losing 6, landing 1 TARPON jumping 5 and some REDFISH (in the slot) and SNAPPER. They took a REDFISH to Camila's a local restaurant to have for dinner. They said it was really great. Ed is Patti's father and he wasn't very happy that she got the biggest fish, with that MONSTER SNOOK she caught, he said he was going to hear about it for a long time.
It is a tradition that they get together each year and go fishing for their birthdays. Wow, is that ever a great tradition. While we were fishing we saw dolphins, turtles, and lots of wading birds. Wow, Fishing has been great. The weather is still warm and the fish are in slow motion migrating to their winter homes. For us this is good as there are fish everywhere (inside islands,outside islands,back country, on the flats,off shore,near shore) everywhere. So no matter where your favorite spot is, there should be fish there. We are having good catches of SNOOK (in the slot), REDFISH(in the slot), TARPON, TROUT, BLACK DRUM, MACKEREL, GOLIATH GROUPER, LADYFISH and JACKS. This is the time of year that we start to catch our mix bag of fish. You just never know what is going to bite the end of your line. This really makes it exciting. Maybe a 100 lb TARPON, how about a BIG SNOOK, or maybe even a GOLIATH GROUPER. Hey how about that monster 50lb BLACK DRUM. Fishing in the Everglades National Park/10,000 Islands is really an experience of a lifetime. So what are you waiting for.....come on, give me a call (Capt. Well, it has been a busy last couple weeks. With the weather cooling down and the rain every evening, things are really starting to pick up. There is also bait everywhere, inside and outside. With this in mind, fish are on the feed. Last week, I had some girls in town that wanted to just go out and explore, so that's what we did. We did a little fishing, caught TROUT, MACKEREL and SHARKS, but didn't spend too much time fishing as the girls wanted to do some shelling , beach combing, a picnic lunch and just take it easy. They really enjoyed all the WILDLIFE that we have here, like Manatees, Turtles, Birds, etc. We actually had a MANATEE come right up to the boat while fishing. A couple days ago, Gary came back over from the east coast to fish with me again. So lets see in the last couple days, we caught 9 SNOOK (some in the slot and some being too big and some too small) Lost 4 SNOOK, (the big ones always get away) caught 2 REDFISH in the slot and caught 3 TARPON and jumped 3 TARPON. From now on each day is a new and exciting one with the fish on the move to their winter homes. While in their transit mode, they are feeding good getting ready for a long winter. Well, it has been a busy couple weeks. We are catching some nice fish. Like Big SAW FISH( 14-15ft)(which by the way is an endangered specie), Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Trout, Pompano, Mackerel, Sharks, just to mention a few. The fishing has been a little on the slow side, but being steady all day long. My last charter was with Tom and Roberta McCrory. They had two good day of fishing with me and decided to take a third day. While fishing them, they jumped 12 TARPON, landing 1(the tarpon are juvenile and run from 5 to 50 lbs. We did see a couple that looked like they were up in the high 90 to 100 lbs)(these small tarpon are a lot of fun and very aerobatic), caught 7 REDFISH (nice fish up to 29 inches), caught 40+ TROUT (up to 23 inches), caught a few SNAPPER, caught and landed a few SHARKS and lost some really, really big ones(I think 5), caught a couple SNOOK and lost a couple big ones, we also had some pompano on, but didn't get them to the net in time(maybe next time). These POMPANO here are running on the large size. They are between 2-4 lbs. and really good to eat. The rain has been the same ole,same ole, with starting about 4:30 every evening and quiting in the early morning. Like always it is very welcome cause it cools everything down for the next day. SNOOK season opens Sept 1 - so pick up the phone and book your trips soon

Today I fished Gary. He wanted to catch SNOOK and TARPON. Imagine that...the most fun and hardest fish to catch. Anyway, we started our day out with snook and the snook were winning the game with 2 (snook) to 0 (boat). Then Gary turned the score around to 2 to 2. These snook are running in the slot and nice size at that. The smaller one of the bunch seemed to put up the best fight...maybe that's the teenager in him. Then Gary got a hold of something really big that turned out to be a shark. The shark cut him off after a couple seconds so I handed him another rod that I had baited up to make another cast while I re-rigged the one he was using. Sometimes when the sharks move in it's time to change locations cause we can't seem to stop getting bit by them. Gary made a couple more cast before he got bit again by the big shark. This time was a little different. Gary had him on long enough for me to pick up anchor and start heading toward the shark so not to get spooled. He had him on for quite a few minutes when the line broke. I actually think Gary didn't mind that the line broke cause it was gonna be a long battle and he knew it. Instead of fishing for sharks, we decided to leave that spot to go find some tarpon. They were not showing well, my guess, it was because of the wind, but they were there. Gary got hit on his first cast right at the boat but we didn't get a hook up on that one, but got a good look at him. We got a laugh at that cause I had just reminded him that they (the tarpon) sometimes hit at the boat. Anyway, he did jump two that afternoon, but we didn't win the game as the score was 2 (tarpon) to 0 (boat). He had a good time and we got back to the dock before the rain started.

Well, it is still raining every evening here in South Florida and that's a good thing for two reasons. #1 It cools off the land making the heat a little more bearable and #2 it cools off the water a little and keeps the fish biting good. We are still having some good catches of Pompano (these are really nice big pompano), Trout (out on the flats), Redfish (around the islands), Tarpon (in the river and on the flats) and Snook (caught some in the slot today). Don't forget Snook Season opens on the 1st of Sept. So call and reserve your fishing trip soon.

What a fun day we had. I fished John(dad) Sam (son) and Judd (dad) Jack (son) We started the day with tarpon. There were a lot of tarpon around and we jumped 4 but didn't land any.... they just didn't want to cooperate this morning. So we left there with the score of tarpon 4 and boat 0 to go catch some trout and get some fishing action. That we did. Out to the flat we went as the weather was great and nothing to stop us. The birds were diving on fish striking so we stopped to see kind of fish were there. Ladyfish, ladyfish and more ladyfish. Then I saw some mackerel striking so we moved to catch mackerel, trout and more ladyfish. These guys were having a lot of fun cause it was hard to make a cast without catching something. Then all of the sudden it happened....the water just exploded and out came a huge Tarpon. We got 2 or 3 jumps out of that guy before he decided to throw the hook back at us. A BIG TARPON it was that I estimated to be 100+ lbs. Wow, what a thrill that was. We stopped on the way back in to try for redfish and snook. We didn't catch any redfish but we did catch 2 SNOOK. Jack and John we happy about that. (By the Way Snook season opens Sept 1) We did a 3/4 day and it is a lot of fun when you can catch fish with a fast pace like that. They also got a nice mess of TROUT and MACKEREL for dinner. The weather was good also, a little warm, but not too bad. Way to go guys, you did good. Send some pictures please and I will post them. Well, that's it for today. Sure am glad that Hurricane Bill is not coming here.

Today I fished Santa and William. Santa is here visiting from Columbia and wanted to try fishing. We left this morning for a 1/2 day charter cause the weather was going to break down this afternoon, as we have a Tropical Depresson coming in on us. The guys said that they would like to catch some redfish, and really just wanted to catch whatever is biting. We started out at a couple redfish holes, and zip. So went to another spot. We were they for a little bit when all the sudden Santa was hanging on to the rod as the line was screaming out when the water exploded with a Tarpon. He got a couple jumpes out of him before the Tarpon through the hook back at us. Wow, is that ever exciting, watching this huge fish come out of the water with his head just a shaking. This tarpon was about 60 lbs. and full of spunk. Oh well, we wil get that one next time. We also caught 2 pretty good size Jack Crevelle and 2 gag Groupers, one being almost keeper size and a lot of Mangrove Snappers (legal size) We found a pod of dolphins and they played behind the boat in the wake. The guys actually enjoyed watching them. We didn't see any manatees today, but saw a lot of wading birds and a few turtles. Not bad for a day when the weather was going to get real messy. Hope that William sends me some pictures....as I will add them to the blog.

Okay, looks like we will be off the water for a couple day, but stay in touch for some more fishing reports later.

It was a beautiful day and at the spare of the moment Diana and Mathew wanted to do a late afternoon charter. They are here from Germany on their Honeymoon. They just wanted to see what it was like out there and catch some fish. We had a okay day and they had a lot of fun. Diana had never been fishing before so she was please that she caught the biggest fish. We caught a good number of Ladyfish, Trout, Mackerel and big sail cats. Right at the moment it seems like the morning bite is a little better, but that can all change real quick. While we were fishing we saw lots of Manatees, dolphins, turtles and wading birds. This is the first day I have been back on the water since my vacation. It was a very nice day as the fishing and the weather were great. Paul, Ray and John have been coming over for the last five years to fish with me for whatever is biting. These guys went to school together and make a fishing trip like a short reunion. The exception is that this year John's wife Heidi came along(great gal). So the four of them showed up at the dock early as to catch the tide right. Our first stop was the flat cause they love to take there limit of trout home with them. Surprise, surprise we started to catch nice big pompano. (10 of them) These pomps were 3-4 pounders and can put up a great fight. While catching pompano we also caught trout, ladyfish, mackerel and bonnet head sharks. I think today we actually caught the biggest bonnet head shark that I have ever seen. When that spot started to slow, we moved to try some snook fishing. By this time is was time for lunch. We gave snook fishing about 20 min. but nothing happening. We went over to a flat close by to try for more trout and did catch a couple and 1 pompano, but the water was dirty and we started catching quite a few cat fish. The rain started to build up for the afternoon and was getting close to us so we headed back to the north (closer to home) and went to the flat we were catching the pompano to start with. Wow, what a lot of ladyfish (poor man's tarpon). Ladyfish everywhere. You couldn't get a bait through the ladyfish to catch any thing else. Well, they did have fun trying to land them as they jump a lot and is a challenge to get them to the boat. We call them poor man's tarpon cause they look like a little tarpon and jump like a tarpon. Spending more time in the air then the water. The rain was right on our backs so we decided to call it a day. As we were headed back Paul say he sure was hoping for a redfish. With that in mind I stopped at the next island and said okay guys five minutes. They all jumped up grabbed their rods, baited up and Paul got one on the first cast. Nice keeper size redfish for the grill. Then Ray got one about the same size. We hated to leave but that storm was coming up on use fast and it's not fun being on the water in a thunder storm. We did get several pictures before the rain came in. So until next time "come on down cause the fishing is great and the weather is fine"

"What a trip! What a day! What an adventure!
After so many years of fishing I feel I deserve to cherish some well earned memories. This trip was filled with so many good thoughts. The pictures by the way came out terrific. Love the way you make your blog entries. Funny, fishing in all that structure left me with 2 thoughts. First, what can go wrong....most likely will go wrong. The exception to the rule is landing the 43" snook of a lifetime. Second, it reminded me of the advanced level of a video game. This time the screen was now reduced from an open river, or ocean to the confines area of structures. The result was fast and furious. With your "help" I was challenged to my max. By the way, your heightened excitement gave me the adjustments I needed to pull my skills together....quickly and efficiently. Once again, I can only thank you for the fishing thrill of a lifetime and I so look forward to our next adventure together."

Boy oh Boy, what a beautiful Snook. This was a very exciting fishing trip for Harold Fox his wife Marcy and their son Jeramie. This family has never caught Snook or Tarpon before. They fished with me last year and we caught a lot of Redfish, Trout and a big Shark. Well, they can't say that anymore. They actually jumped 9 Tarpon and landing 1 nice Tarpon. We also landed 2 Snook out of 6 (one nice size Snook and one 43" Monster Snook). Caught a Goliath Grouper and Jacks. We went out to the flats to check on the trout, but the water was still murky. When we got back to the dock, Harold said that this fishing trip was a "thrill of a lifetime" He was still shaking from being so excited with catching that Monster Snook. We also saw manatees, dolphins, spoonbills, and lots of wading birds. Fishing in the Everglades National Park is one true experience of a lifetime

Today Nick and Stephanie met me a the dock early for a day of fishing. We went out on the flat to catch some trout for dinner. Well, the trout won with the boat catching a few small ones. Nothing for dinner today at lease not trout. We switched over to jigs and they had a blast catching ladyfish. These fish are also called poor mans tarpon cause they jump like a tarpon. Staying out of the water more then in the water. It is a real challenge to get one in the boat as they usually throw the hook after about the second or third jump. While we were fishing on the flats we also watched the manatees. At one time they were all around us, guess maybe about a dozen. They didn't stay up very long, but just long enough to get a good look at them. We moved to another flat to try and find the trout when all we could see were schools of bait and tarpon. Well, want to catch a tarpon I said, Nick and Stephanie stepped right up and said sure. So guess what, you got it, she jumped and landed her first tarpon. It jumped twice, but stayed hooked up (glad we had some practice on ladyfish) This wasn't a baby tarpon, but a full grown one. I would estimate it weighed between 80 and 100 lbs. Not bad for a first and she did a great job. Nick was her coach and support group he also took some pictures of her fighting the fish and he also got a short video.(don't forget to watch it) On the way back in we found some dolphins and got them to play at the back of the boat in the wake. This is really neat to see. They actually ride the wake like a surfer would ride a wave. Anyway it was an interesting day on the water right from the start with catching trout and ladyfish, fighting and landing a tarpon all while seeing manatees, dolphins, and lots of birds.

Bob and Barb had a nice day on the water today. The bite wasn't fast, but we did catch some fish. Actually we caught Mangrove Snapper, Jacks, Trout, one Snook, and had a good time catching these fish. Barb had only fished a couple times before, but she caught on fast and was doing a great job casting and catching fish. Oh yea, she also caught a small gag Grouper. Good job Barb. Bob is a bass fisherman so already new how to cast and everything. He did catch his first snook. It wasn't a big guy, but a nice size snook and Bob did a good job keeping it out of the rocks. Way to go Bob. The weather was nice, but started to get a little hot in the afternoon. We really need for it to start raining again in the evenings to cool things off a little. Wow, what a beautiful day out on the water. While we were fishing on the flats catching trout, ladyfish and jacks a manatee came right up along side of the boat, guess she just wanted to say hello. We also saw turtles, dolphins, bald eagles and a lot of wading birds. Fishing was a little slow, but along with trout, ladyfish and jacks we managed to catch snook in the slot and of course the big ones got away. We also jumped a couple tarpon toward the end of the day, losing one right at boat as I was leaning to get the net. We'll get that one next time. On the whole, I would say it was a great day on the water. Can't wait till tomorrow.

Today we caught Snook, Redfish and Tarpon. Didn't go trout fishing, but am sure they were there also. Had a great day out on the water. The rain didn't start until about 6:30pm which is what I like. Well, that's it for now.

Fishing has been good. We are catching snook, trout, redfish, snapper (mangrove) and tarpon. The weather is warm and predictable. It usually rains every evening which cools things off for the night, but doesn't spoil your fishing day.
